Russell Irwin Thomas, 83 of Atlanta, Indiana passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on April 3, 2017. Russell was born on October 21, 1933 in Atlanta, IN to Omer and Nora Thomas.

On May 14, 1966 Russell married Shirley Sutton, lasting just shy of 50 years due to her death in 2016.

Russell retired from GM Delco Electronics in Kokomo after working over 40 years. He served his country in the US Army and was a long time member of the Tipton Moose Lodge.

Back in the day, Russell enjoyed many friends and dancing with his wife at the Moose Lodge. He loved his home and friends in Placida, Florida where he and Shirley enjoyed the winter months. There, he was an avid fisherman and all enjoyed his "catches" as he and Shirley served many at their fish frys!

Russell's survivors include one son; Steve Sutton and daughters; Nancy (Jim) Williamson, Karen Huffman, Mary Anne (Steve) Doi. Grandchildren; Andrea McNew, Andy Williamson, Dave Williamson, Nathan Huffman, Lauren Sutton and Alycen Doi. He was lucky enough to spoil 10 great grandchildren; Addison, Evan, Ethyn, Caden, Triston, Zoey, Lydia, Zion, Connor and Tabitha. One brother survives; Floyd Thomas of California and several nieces and nephews.

Russell was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Shirley, grandsons; Mike Williamson, Brandon Huffman, and son-in-law Tim Huffman. Siblings; Wilma Leach, Edna Phifer, Doretha, Clarence, John, Orville, Omer Jr and Lowell Thomas.

The family will receive friends Sunday, April 9, 2017 from 2:00 pm until time of service at 4:00 pm. Condolences may be made at www.hartlyfuneralhomes.com
