Richard Milburn Lewis, age 92, of Arcadia, IN died May 29, 2017 at Cumberland Trace Nursing Home at Plainfield, IN.

He was born December 19, 1924 at Glasgow, KY to Renick Milburn and Ruby May (Smith) Lewis.

He was a graduate of Glasgow High School. He then served his country in the US. Army in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater during WW II and was awarded three Bronze Stars. From the Philippine Liberation Campaign he was awarded another Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. After being honorably discharged from the military he became a firefighter at Grissom Air Force Base. An avid woodworker, upon retirement he was busy in his wood shop making various items which he sold and at times gave away.

He was a member of the Cicero American Legion for over 70 years.

Dick, as he was fondly known, married Grace (Ollie) Lewis on February 18, 1967. She preceded him in death September 14, 1991. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter: Carolyn Sue (Lewis) Simon and a brother: Eldon Lewis.

Surviving him is a daughter: Judy Faye Lewis Hobson of Columbus, IN, two sons: Richard M. Lewis, Jr. of Franklin, IN and Garry Thomas Lewis of Monrovia, IN, brothers: William Rondal Lewis of Land-o-Lakes, FL, and Charles E. Lewis of Glasgow, KY, a sister: Joann Lewis Bunch of Louisville, KY, 5 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at Hartley Funeral Homes Cicero Chapel, 209 West Jackson Street, Cicero, IN 46034 with Pastor Jody Brown officiating. Burial will follow at the Arcadia Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Friday. You may send condolences at www.hartleyfuneralhomes.com.
