James Earl Gilliland

James Earl Gilliland, age 70, of Cicero, IN passed away at his home on Sunday, November 26, 2017.

He was born February 14, 1947 at Indianapolis, IN to James Kenneth and Dione (Brubeck) Gilliland. His parents preceded him in death.

He was a graduate of Manual High School at Indianapolis, then attended two years of college. He proudly served his country in the 17th Infantry of the 8th U.S. Army.

Jim was a skilled mechanic and had worked for several years for the Penske Automotive Group at Indianapolis. He read and followed the news of the day and with a special interest in politics. He also enjoyed working with computers that included building them. Spare time would often find him target practicing.

He married Karen Diane (Johnson) Gilliland on May 1, 1976. She survives him. Additional survivors include daughters: Amy Lynn Johnson of Cicero, IN and Emily Aleene (Derek) Coverdale of Cicero, IN, sisters: Barbara Guilmette of Rapid City, SD and Laurie McLaurin of Indianapolis, N, plus three grandchildren: Jennifer and Jessica Nordhoff and Lilah Coverdale.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Novermber 29, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. at Hartley Funeral Homes Cicero Chapel, 209 West Jackson Street, Cicero, IN 46034. Burial will follow at the Cicero Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. You may send condolences at www.hartley funeralhomes.com.
