Clifford B. Collins, 92, of Noblesville, IN, passed away Thursday, October 12, 2017, at Harbour Manor Health Care in Noblesville. He was born September 25, 1925 near Noblesville, Indiana to Ozzo B. and Minerva Elizabeth (Literal) Collins.

Clifford graduated from Fishers High School in 1943. He was married to Lula May (Smith) Collins from 1943 to 1990 and was father to Linda Lou Collins (now deceased) and Larry Lee Collins.

He proudly served his country in the Army Air Corps from November 1943 through May 1945. He was a tail gunner on the B24 aircraft and flew many missions over France and Central Europe during his service time. He was awarded a Purple Heart in 1990 for injuries sustained during one of those missions. He was truly one of our cherished World War II veterans.

Clifford was employed by the Gulf Oil Corporation in Van Nuys, California for twenty years and by Industrial Asphalt (division of Gulf Oil) for twenty years. He served in the capacities of accountant, office manager, and assistant comptroller during his employment years.

Clifford married Patricia Hall Shaffer (Collins) on November 9, 1995. He was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church at Arcadia, IN. During his later years, he and Pat attended Omega Christian Church at Omega, Indiana. He was also a member of Fishers American Legion, Lowell Beaver Post, Fishers, IN. He enjoyed spending time in the great outdoors, fishing, boating canoeing and riding his bicycle.

Surviving him is a son: Larry L. Collins of Noblesville, step-daughter: Susan Achenbach of Atlanta, IN, step-son: Mark (Debbie) Shaffer of Tipton, IN, one grandson, two great-grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, fourteen step-great grandchildren, and two step-great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wives: Lula May (Smith) Collins and Patricia Hall (Shaffer) Collins, daughter: Linda Lou Collins, step-son: William E. Shaffer, and step-daughter: Ann Shaffer.

Clifford was the ultimate gentleman, always thinking of others first. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
